The Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) at the University of Surrey, UK was formed in 1989 and has grown to around 80 members strong, comprising 10 academic staff, ~20 research fellows/postdocs and ~50 research students. The main sources of its research funding include EPSRC, ESPRIT, government agencies and industry.

The centre has developed strong links with industry and government research laboratories including British Aerospace, British Gas, Shell, Philips, HP Labs, BP, GEC, ERA, CRS, British Telecom, Bull Italia, Thomson and the Defence Research Agency (DERA). Its academic contacts and collaborators include academic groups in the United States of America and teams in the EEC, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia who are involved in joint ESPRIT, BRITE and IED projects. Staff enjoy international reputation in many areas of their activities.
